Our Community...Driving Drugs Out

The Mission:

To aggressively reduce the use and abuse of methamphetamine, alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs in the Billings and Greater Yellowstone County community.

Community Goals:

Introduction

Billings/Yellowstone County Drug Prevention Planning Committee (BYCDPPC) was formulated as a work group under the Billings Healthy Community Coalition (BHCC).  The BHCC applied for and was successful in receiving a three year Community Incentive Drug Prevention Grant in October 1999 for $855.000 (see BCIP Grant for more information).  This grant required a community wide strategic planning process and sustainability plan for funding beyond year three of the grant, thus was formed the BYCDPPC.  With 50 plus members, the BYCDPPC has a steering committee which evaluates priorities and sets agendas for the larger group.  To effectively address community prevention four task forces have been established with thier own agendas and work plans.  The Media Task Force, the Judicial and Enforcement Task Force, the Policy Development Task Force and the Legislative Task Force all report back to the larger group.

Since its inception, members of the BYCDPPC have gone on to write other prevention grants and have brought additional prevention doallars to our community.  Two of the most important of these are the SAMHSA grant and the United Tobacco Free Coalition.  Other members continue to be active in program planning and develoment.  If you are interested in becoming involved in one of these groups contact Ernie Randolfi for more information.
