Viviani's Theorem

© Copyright 2002, Jim Loy

Move the big red dot, within the equilateral triangle. The sum of the three colored lines (the distances from the big red dot to each of the three sides) should remain the same, and is equal to the altitude. This is called Viviani's theorem. If you get outside the triangle, the negative lengths get somewhat confusing.

The above Java interactive demonstration was created with Cinderella (a geometry program).
