Another Trick Billiards Shot

© Copyright 1999, Jim Loy

This artistic billiard shot of mine seems to have won the 1999 2nd Artistic Carom Billiard Championship on the Internet. I have to get confirmation of that. This tournament featured shots of many rails (I think it was six or more rails). The picture is a screen image from the billiard simulation program, which is used in the competition.

The yellow ball is my cue ball. The shot certainly looks possible on a real table. Getting the right action may not be very difficult. But scoring the billiard may be nearly impossible. A lot of things happen in this shot. The cue ball is shot very hard to the top rail with running English (left-follow). This causes a severe backup in the lower left corner, which causes the cue ball to hug the bottom rail. Four rails have been touched, before the cue ball hits the red ball, which causes the white ball to move into the upper right corner for the final time shot. The cue ball goes back to the bottom rail, and the natural follow makes it curve dramatically around the red ball to the right rail. The cue ball then rolls slowly toward the white ball. And I luckily get the billiard.

I still seem to be ranked #1 among artistic players on the Internet. The third tournament, which ended at the end of June, was a masse shot competition. I have not heard how that turned out.
