Montana Metal Works display at a recent show.

Growing up on a rural South Dakota ranch in the 50's, I was always fascinated by the local blacksmith shops.   The tools that fascinated me the most were the forges used to heat the metal and the power hammers used to shape it.

I was thirteen when my father purchased a new welder which opened up a whole new opportunity for me.   Unfortunately, my inexperience, impatience, and lack of necessary tools generated a scrap heap of partially completed dreams.   However, there were some completed projects, and as a result, a wealth of practical experience.

My life headed a different direction after college and it was not until the late 70's when I became part owner of a large pipe, plate, and vessel fabrication company, that I was reacquainted with the satisfaction of working with metal.

After selling the fabrication company seven years ago and joining another company, I decided working with metal would be my lifelong hobby and business.
